Slightly less than 1 percent of the U.S. population has been diagnosed with celiac disease. But the disease is under-diagnosed (not unlike migraines) with as many as 8-in-10 people with the disease living in a state of unawareness.

A blood test can screen for the disease, but it’s a test for elimination not confirmation. For that, you need an endoscopic biopsy.
